Step 1: enter and pick the mode
Open warhex.io, choose your name and a skin and click Play. Right now the game runs in Overdrive mode, with special advantages for players who build well.
Step 2: understand Aura
Aura is the game's resource. It shows in the bottom panel, with how much you have and how much you earn per second. Generators raise that income. Almost everything costs Aura: buildings, troops and upgrades.
Step 3: build in this order
- Generator. Economy first. The sooner, the better.
- Turrets. Three turrets cover the first threats.
- Barracks. Without it there are no soldiers or tanks.
- Walls and houses. They protect what matters and raise your population.
- Armory. Buys upgrades for your troops.
The "First steps" panel lists generator, three turrets and barracks and gives +60 XP when you finish all three.
Step 4: troops and Commander
- Soldier: cheap and fast, good in groups.
- Tank: takes more damage.
- Siege tank: destroys buildings from far away.
- Commander: your strongest unit. It shoots and leads the attack.

Keys can be changed in Settings. The ones above are the defaults.
Phone controls
On phones, touch controls appear during the match: a joystick on the left to move the camera and a row of buttons with Send troops, All, Commander, Base and Retreat. Two fingers zoom.
Tips for your first matches
- Generator before anything else. Idle Aura is a lost match.
- Defend before you attack. Losing buildings early slows everything.
- Do not leave the green ring without troops. Outside it you can be attacked.
- Help take down bosses. Whoever deals damage earns points. Boss guide.
